VINEYARDS
‘Bodegas Los Frailes’ consists of 130 hectares dedicated to wine growing. Our main grape variety is Monastrell, a variety traditionally planted in ‘Els Alforins’ region, which was partially lost during the last century as a consequence of the growth of more popular varieties (e.g. Cabernet Sauvignon). Our main goal is the reintroduction of the Monastrell combined with the incorporation of new varieties (Cabernet Sauvignon, Tempranillo, Garnacha, Shiraz and Marselan) to raise the unique accent of our wines.
The
average age of the vineyards is over 25 years old, including vineyards
of Monastrell variety with more than 40 years old. The plantation density
is from 1.800 to 2.000 plants per hectare. At ‘Bodegas Los Frailes’,
we maintain low yields of around 3.000 kilos of grape per hectare as an average
encouraging more the quality than the quantity of the grapes.
